Description

ccLXPOP is a program to utilize the LXTCP utilities written by Rod Whitby with ccMail. If you have setup LXTCP to work with your HPLX, you should be able to make this work with ccMail for a nice easy interface for email. All files needed to connect to your email with cc:Mail are included. The sourcecode is available on Sourceforge . Freeware.

How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 22.9 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • CCLXPOP.CFG → A:\_DAT configuración 731 B
  • EMAIL2.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 495 B
  • CCLXPOP.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 58.4 KB
  • EMAIL1.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 334 B

No need to put CCLXPOP.TXT, README.TXT: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 22.9 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy EMAIL2.BAT, CCLXPOP.EXE, EMAIL1.BAT to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  2. Copy CCLXPOP.CFG to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
  3. If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The manual mentions these files, which are in the archive:

The author's instructions
To setup ccLXPOP for "dual machine" use, here is some guidance. My assumption is that you will want to use a PCMCIA card to retain your email data and pass back and forth between your deskptop and HPLX. The advantage of this is that you can use the higher modem and processing speed of the desktop to download / thread your mail, or even access a LAN for email and use ccMail for viewing. The real trick to all of this is not that sophisticated. in your WATTCP.CFG file, where you specify the spooldir, don't specify the drive, just the path. For example:
cclxpop.spooldir=\lxmta\spool\
cclxpop.ccpath=\pcmcia_dat\mail\

There is one "gotcha" in this regard - if you download an attachment and the path name does not include a DRIVE Letter, ccMail will not be able to extract the attachments. This is not a huge deal, as in the body of the message you will see the filename the attachment was saved in the ccPath directory, which is always of the form XXXXXXXX.att for incoming attachment files. You can simply copy this file to wherever you want to keep it, supplying the filename you want to save it as.

ccLXPOP will run as a DOS application under Windows 95. Not tested under 98 or NT. Good Luck - ccLXPOP will load your email faster this way, running on a 56Kb modem than on 14Kb modem and the HPLX - If you deal in large volumes of email, this might be helpful. I normally just let my HPLX download my mail, to be honest! But, I have done this, it does work!

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
