Where this archive comes from
This site is not the archive. The archive is the S.U.P.E.R. collection, put together over many years by the HP Palmtop Mailing List community and hosted by Peter Eberl at hp200lx.net. What is offered here is a copy of it, made browsable.
How this copy was made
It was mirrored with HTTrack on 3 May 2014, in a crawl that ran for over seven hours. The reason was simple: the site was already failing intermittently, and it seemed wiser to take it than to risk losing it. The copy has been carried across several computers in the twelve years since — the kind of thing that usually disappears in the next migration.
HTTrack3.47-23 launched on Sat, 03 May 2014 03:04:24 at http://www.hp200lx.net/super.html
How old the contents are
The most recent content in the mirror is dated 21 August 2013, so the site had been quiet for about nine months when it was captured. Its own copyright notice reads 1996–2008.
What is left of the original
Not much. hp200lx.net no longer resolves at all, and www.hp200lx.net answers with a redirect to eberl.com, which in turn returns a WordPress error — served, fittingly, from a residential connection.
www.hp200lx.net → 302 Found → https://www.eberl.com/ → HTTP 500
Why we know it is the original site
Because the crawl still carries the site's own CGI links — cgi-bin/search.pl and count-redir.cgi — which only appear if you mirrored the live site. A copy of one of the later adaptations would not have them.
The other surviving copy
Michel Bel keeps a copy at mizj.com, a snapshot of the 2006/2009 site with later additions. Comparing the two: this one holds 305 files that one does not host, and that one holds four this one lacks. Different vintages of the same collection, and both worth keeping.
What was added here
The files are untouched. What is new is the catalogue: every entry with description, author, year and category in a real database instead of a flat listing; install guides worked out from each package; and transfer to the palmtop over serial from the browser.
Credit belongs to the people who built the collection: the HP Palmtop Mailing List, the S.U.P.E.R. team, and everyone who wrote and shared this software. If you know the history of the site better than what is written here, corrections are welcome.
