How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 58.7 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • QUICKVL.EXM → A:\SOFT aplicación del System Manager 14.8 KB
  • LXPIC.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 22.7 KB

No need to put QUICKV.DOC, LXPIC.DOC: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 58.7 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy QUICKVL.EXM to A:\SOFT. It is a System Manager application: register it in App Manager with F2 (Add), giving the full path (for example A:\SOFT\QUICKVL.EXM).
  2. The 200LX takes 8 EXM applications at most. Check with F8 (List) in App Manager: an asterisk in the Status column means the quota is full and you will need MoreEXM.
  3. Copy LXPIC.COM to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The manual mentions these files, which are in the archive:

The author's instructions
INSTALLATION
An EXM Program cannot be run directly from the command line,
but has to be installed into system manager and started via
hotkey. I suggest {Alt-Memo}, 0xbb00 for the hotkey.
See the section on installing progams in the HPLX manual for
details.
If you wish to use the image viewing feature, copy the included
version of Stefan Peichl's LXPIC program, LXPIC.COM into the
same directory where QUICKV.EXM resides.
ONLY the version included in this package will work, but it
will still do everything LXPIC used to do for you.
HP system manager leaves only 4 slots free for user-installed
EXM programs. Use of MOREEXM is recommended. QuickView
integrates well with X-FINDER. To use QuickView as the default
viewer, use one of the following lines in finder.env:
%v       ,0   ,u||$c %p%c; $m {xbb00}{Paste}  # up to XF R.9
%v , ,$c %p%c; $m {xbb00}{Paste} # XF R.10

FUTUTRE PLANS AND KNOWN LIMITATIONS
* As soon as i have some spare time, i will try to add a
database viewer in read-only mode.
* When in text mode, a maximum of 460 pages (980 in the
large version) can be displayed without restrictions. This
should suffice for most purposes. Beyond this limit, only
forward scrolling is supported. This is indicated by a
downward-pointing triangle in the title bar. When trying to
scroll backwards, QuickView will take you to the last indexed
(460th resp. 980th) instead of the previous page. Switch to a
smaller font or to hex mode to scroll through more of the file.
* The File open dialog is restricted to 100 files and
40 directories in the compact version and 200 files and 80
directories in the large version.
* QuickView assumes that files are not altered or deleted
by other processes while being viewed. Doing this may

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
