How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 251.7 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • VDE.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B
  • VDE.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 89.8 KB
  • VINST.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 16.5 KB

No need to put VDE194.NEW, EXAMPLES.VDF, FILE_ID.DIZ, VDE.DOC, VINST.DOC, WP.VDF, WS4.VDF: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 251.7 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy VDE.EXE, VINST.COM to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  2. The .ICN files are icons: they go in the same folder as their application.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

 Screen colors - You can select different colors for: normal text; block text;
    markers and printer codes; soft CRs/hyphens, tabs, and EOF; header; menus
    and prompts; header/menu highlights; and error messages. Each is
    specified by an "attribute byte" consisting of two hex digits, for a
    background and foreground color.  ("17" = "1", blue background, & "7",
    white text.) A color palette displays on screen.
        *0 = BLACK   4 = red      *8 = GREY           C = bright red
         1 = blue    5 = magenta   9 = bright blue    D = bright magenta
         2 = green   6 = brown     A = bright green   E = yellow
         3 = cyan   *7 = WHITE     B = bright cyan   *F = BRIGHT WHITE
    (* - All MDA screens can display black, white, and bright white; in some
    cases, grey may also be visible.)
        If you have an EGA/VGA display, the palette will include all 256
    colors (00-FF). Otherwise, you will see only 128 (00-7F); on MDA/CGA
    systems, the background attributes 8-F produce blinking video. Some video
    systems produce underlining, inverse, or grey shades instead of colors.
        (Note: if your soft CR color has the same background as normal text,
    VDE will adjust its background to match block text as well.)
 Border colors - The first digit here is the border (overscan) color to frame
    the screen within VDE; the second, the color to restore on exit to DOS.
    ("70" = white border, restored to black). On some systems, or under
    DESQview or UltraVision, a border isn't visible at all.

 Cursor type (D/B/U) - Choose a full "B"lock cursor, or "U"nderline, or
    "D"efault for whatever the cursor shape already was. (In 40+ line mode,
    it's always a block, for better visibility.)

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
