LxPro
Version 2.4 · Stefan Peichl
Description
LxPro is a Sidekick-like TSR for HP palmtops only. It gives you complete control over all special HP palmtop features. In addition, it has an ASCII table window, a memory window, a keycode window, a programmer's calculator and an I/O port window. Now supports EMS if available and exits at power down to prevent problems with password-protected machines. Copyrighted freeware. Check for a more recent version on Stefan Peichl's homepage

How to install it
What to send to the palmtop saves 30.5 KB
These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.
-
LXPRO.COM→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 9.8 KB -
LXPROMIN.COM→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 4.9 KB -
LXPROHOT.BAT→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 299 B -
LXPROHOT.DAT→ A:\_DAT configuración 29 B
No need to put
LXPRO.DOC:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 30.5 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy LXPRO.COM, LXPROMIN.COM, LXPROHOT.BAT to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
- Copy LXPROHOT.DAT to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
- If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.
The author's instructions
INSTALL {path\}LXPRO.COM
into your CONFIG.SYS file and reboot (CTRL-ALT-DEL)
If you find LxPro useful, and you want to use it every day,
I recommend to install EMS on your palmtop using the TREMM
driver by Mack Baggette. Alternatively you may use the /C
parameter to install LxPro. Both methods free up 8 KB of RAM
(4 KB for LxProMin). If your computer is equipped with EMS
the /C switch is ignored. See 'TECHNICAL' for more information
on how to install using the /C parameter.
You can use three command line parameters with LxPro, once it
is loaded resident:
/P passivates the program. It stays in memory, but cannot be
started with the hotkey.
/A activates the program after it was passivated. The hotkey
is hot again.
/R removes the program from memory.
If you enter LxPro without parameters, you get the actual state
of LxPro (that is: active or passive). Unknown parameters or /?
result in a syntax output.
HOW TO USE LXPRO
LxPro works like good old SIDEKICK: Pressing the activation key
the first time opens the battery window. Pressing this key
again, closes the window. That's all for LxProMin users,
because LxProMin has only the battery window.
Once, the battery window is open, you may open all other windos
with the keys F1-F7. The window on top is called active window.
Every input is passed to this window. All other windows sleep
in the background, but can be brought to the foreground and
activated with their corresponding F-key. You may switch
between all windows by pressing their F-keys.
The ESC key closes the active window (makes it disapear).
Pressing ESC repeatedly, closes all windows and exits finally
LxPro. The next activation then starts with the battery window
open again.

Send to my palmtop
The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
Your browser cannot talk to the serial port. Direct sending uses the Web Serial API, which only exists in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop — not in Firefox, Safari or any mobile browser.
Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
