How to install it
What to send to the palmtop saves 6.7 KB
These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.
-
SM.BAT→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 15 B -
OFF.COM→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 6 B -
ALARM.COM→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 1.0 KB
No need to put
ALARM.DOC:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 6.7 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy SM.BAT, OFF.COM, ALARM.COM to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

Installation.
To keep the size of this ZIP file as small as possible,
I haven't included any installation program. To properly
install ALARM to your palmtop you will have to modify your
AUTOEXEC.BAT yourself. If you don't feel comfortable doing
this, or you're not familiar with DOS, I advise you
not to attempt to do these modifications.
The ALARM.COM file is a TSR (resident) program, and once
loaded it remains in memory and keeps track of the next alarm
event. To install ALARM to your palmtop, you need to add the 4
following lines at THE END of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
d:\dos\doskey 100=100$Talarm /e
alarm /i
100
alarm /e
* You will have to include the complete path of the directory
where ALARM will be installed. For example, if ALARM.COM
will reside in C:\_DAT directory, the above lines will look
like this:
d:\dos\doskey 100=100$Tc:\_dat\alarm /e
c:\_dat\alarm /i
100
c:\_dat\alarm /e
* If you prefer typing 200 to get to the System Manager,
replace all the '100' above with '200'.
These modifications in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file will make ALARM
resident every time you boot the palmtop. ALARM occupies about
688 bytes of memory when loaded. If you need to uninstall ALARM
for any reason, just type the following at the DOS prompt, and
ALARM will attempt to remove itself from the memory:
alarm /u
What the AUTOEXEC.BAT modifications do:
When you boot the palmtop, the doskey 100=100$Talarm /e
line will load doskey in memory, and modify the '100'
command by appending 'alarm /e' to it. This is necessary
so that every time the System Manager is terminated,
'alarm /e' will be executed automatically.
Next, the "alarm /i" line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file will
load ALARM resident. The next line, "100", will load System

Send to my palmtop
The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
Your browser cannot talk to the serial port. Direct sending uses the Web Serial API, which only exists in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop — not in Firefox, Safari or any mobile browser.
Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
