How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 84.2 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • PNR.EXM → A:\SOFT aplicación del System Manager 63.4 KB
  • PNR.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 63.6 KB
  • PNRTI.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 23.8 KB
  • SUMSORT.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 16.2 KB
  • ROT13.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 10.4 KB
  • SOUP2ZIP.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 20.7 KB
  • PNR.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B
  • PNRTI.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B
  • PNR.CFG → A:\_DAT configuración 5.9 KB

No need to put README, PNR.DOC, PNRFAQ.TXT, PNRTISRC.ZIP: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 84.2 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy PNR.EXM to A:\SOFT. It is a System Manager application: register it in App Manager with F2 (Add), giving the full path (for example A:\SOFT\PNR.EXM).
  2. The 200LX takes 8 EXM applications at most. Check with F8 (List) in App Manager: an asterisk in the Status column means the quota is full and you will need MoreEXM.
  3. Copy PNR.EXE, PNRTI.EXE, SUMSORT.EXE, ROT13.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  4. Copy PNR.CFG to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
  5. If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.
  6. The .ICN files are icons: they go in the same folder as their application.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
When installing a !  new    release of PNR it is  # absolutely vital "  that you:

! o    Remove PNR from the system manager (move to its icon & press F4)
! o    Re-install PNR.EXM onto the system manager as per normal
	 ! o    PNR.EXE is the MS-DOS version of PNR.EXM. Use PNR.EXM unless you
	  really want the non-SysMgr version.

If you do not following these steps PNR will crash your palmtop when you execute it.

NOTE: Install PNR.EXM, not PNR.EXE, on your palmtop.

 # Installing PNR "

PNR uses a configuration file called 'PNR.CFG'. This file contains all your preferences & other settings. Edit the sample PNR.CFG that comes with PNR and move it to the C:\_DAT directory on your palmtop (and desktop if you use PNR.EXE on it). The configuration file contains instructions on what each setting is for. Basically, you only  ! need    to change the following settings (see section below):

	user Your username (e.g. mickyj)
host Your hosts name (e.g. hk.net)
name Your name or alias (optional, e.g. 'Micky J')
newsdir The directory where news is stored (e.g. c:\news)

Install  # PNR.EXM "  (not PNR.EXE) into the System Manager as per normal. I suggest you give it the hotkey Alt-MEMO, but it's entirely up to you.

If you want to install  # PNRTI.EXE "  into the System Manager on your palmtop, then install as (change c:\bin to wherever you put it):

		Path: c:\bin\pnrti.exe |
		Comments: ¡¿

 # ROT13.EXE " ,  # SOUP2ZIP.EXE " , and  # SUMSORT.EXE "  are all optional external programs which may be installed on your palmtop, desktop, or UNIX host (source code is provided for all these programs, including PNRTI) depending on how you use them.

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
