How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 4.1 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • TOPCARD.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 1.6 KB
  • TOPCARD.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 113 B
  • TOPCARD.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B

No need to put TOPCARD.DOC: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 4.1 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy TOPCARD.COM, TOPCARD.BAT to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  2. The .ICN files are icons: they go in the same folder as their application.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

It also needs 1

The manual mentions these files, which are in the archive:

The author's instructions
INSTALLATION:
1. unzip the archive and put the three files in a directory that is in your
path. (For me - I set up A:\UTIL to be the place.)
   TOPCARD.COM
   TOPCARD.BAT
   TOPCARD.ICN

NOTE: You MUST at least have the TOPCARD.BAT in your path or this will not
      work!

2. edit the TOPCARD.BAT to show you where you want to copy the chosen .PCX
file. Currently it is set up to copy to C:_DAT\TOPCARD.PCX but you can of
course set it up to copy to anywhere with any name.

NOTE: you MUST use the name TOPCARD.PCX if you intend your user information to
show through the image. If you dont want to be able to see that, the
clock, and the "Press any application key..." message - just simply use
any other filename - like BOOTPIC.PCX, and that will do the trick.
This is a feature/limitation imposed by HP.

Now it is ready to run.

USING TOPCARD.COM:
There are 2 ways to use TOPCARD - in the dos shell, or through the
Sysmanager. from dos you can do the following command to choose the new
Topcard:

TOPCARD A:\PICDIR

Note that you can pass the directory where the pictures are. Also note there
is no "\" at the end of the directory. You dont have to pass the directory if
you are currently IN that directory.

If you want to place TOPCARD in the Applications Manager - I have supplied an TOPCARD.ICN for just that purpose.

Literal excerpt from TOPCARD.DOC, exactly as it came in the package.

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
