Batch Start

Version 2.1 · Wayne Robinson

Description

The HP Palmtop Paper ABATCH lets you easily create batch files to run your programs automatically and return you to a prompt "window" when your programs exit. It is fast and efficient and can run on either color or monochrome systems, though you must have ANSI.SYS running. We recommend the ANSI.COM program as a substitute. Freeware.

How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 30.7 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • ABATCH.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 35.1 KB
  • BRUN30.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 69.0 KB
  • CHOOSE.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 7.6 KB
  • GETAUTO.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 3.8 KB
  • INSTALL.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 4.5 KB
  • PRINTDOC.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 143 B
  • AUTOEXEC.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 38 B

No need to put ABATCH.LIB, ABATCH.DOC, PROMPT: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 30.7 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy ABATCH.EXE, BRUN30.EXE, CHOOSE.EXE, GETAUTO.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
Installation:

Boot your computer and place the Auto Batch disk in drive A:
At the A:\> prompt type INSTALL C: and hit Enter.

This will create a directory on your hard drive called ABATCH
and will copy the program files to this directory. It will also
open your autoexec.bat file and append it with "M". This will
allow you to boot up in the Main Menu automatically.

After the files are transfered the ABATCH program will be run
so it can configure itself to your system and create its support
files. You can at this time enter data for your own programs and
ABATCH will create your batch files. When you exit ABATCH for
the first time you should reboot your system to test the auto
        menu.

        The Batch Writer:

ABATCH is a simple eidtor and syntax checker for you to create
        batch files with.

There are only seven actions possible. These are Color, Delete,
Edit, Exit, Move, Write, and Shell. Each is listed on the bottom
of the screen in a prompt line along with an reminder that the
PgUp/PgDn keys switch menu screens and F1 gets the help screen.
Pressing the first letter of any command begins its execution.
Pressing Escape will cancel any operation with few exceptions.
The help key, F1 will call up a separate screen with information
        about the various functions.

                                     <C>olor

The color function is only active if your system includes a CGA,
VGA, or EGA video adapter. If your system is monochrome the "C"
key will rewrite the M.BAT and MENU.CFG files. If your system is
color then you will be presented with two consecutive windows.

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
