How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 13.9 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • PAT.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 11.9 KB
  • PAT.CFG → A:\_DAT configuración 668 B

No need to put PAT.DOC, BALLPARK.SND, BEEP.SND, BLOWIN.SND, BUMBLBEE.SND, GYMNO.SND, JAWS.SND, MORNRAIN.SND and 6 more: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 13.9 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy PAT.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  2. Copy PAT.CFG to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
  3. If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
Installation of PAT

To install PAT, create a subdirectory C:\PAT on your
palmtop, and copy all files of the distribution archive to
it using the connectivity pack, Eric Meyers ZIP, a terminal
program, KERMIT or other suitable means. (Refer to your
documentation for instructions on how to transfer files to
your palmtop.)

If you're short on space, you can omit some of the .SND files,
and you don't need to copy the PAT.DOC file to the palmtop
either. While PAT.EXE is able to run stand-alone (it will use
built-in defaults then), you will probably want to copy its
PAT.CFG file too, since you can configure many of its features
in there.

You can of course also use another directory to store PAT -
remember to change references to C:\PAT in this
documentation and in the PAT.CFG file accordingly.

Customizing your PAT.CFG

The PAT.CFG file is where you define your customized
appointments. It is best explained using an example. Suppose
you want to create a new appointment type 'Staff meeting'.

First, open PAT.CFG using an editor - MEMO, for example.
Then, think of a name for this type of appointment. It has
to be one word and shouldn't be too long, so that you don't
need to type much when entering an appointment. Let's use
'Mtg' as a shorthand for now. You'd append a section for it
at the end of PAT.CFG, like so:

[Mtg]
Title   = ' Remember ... '
Message = ' Staff meeting in room 102 '
File    = C:\PAT\VICTORS.SND

The 'Title' setting controls the title of the message box
that PAT displays, and 'Message' defines its contents.
'File' tells PAT what sound to play when the appointment is
due. (See below for a description of .SND files)

If the tune you want to play is short, no need to create a
.SND file for it - you can directly specify it in the CFG
…

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
