DUBS.HTM, DUBS.TXT, DUBSLETR.TXT, MBOOT1.JPG, MIN4.GIF, MIN5C.JPG, MINIX.TXT, MINIX1.HTM and 10 more:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 281.9 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy PUT13.EXE, WINI200.EXE, CARDIO.EXE, BOOT.BAT to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
- Copy VECT13.DAT to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
- If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.
The author's instructions
install and boot MINIX (for hackers only at this point) - on a web page (TBD) so that the Internet community can have access. Then I will announce my accomplishment to the MINIX and HP Palmtop newsgroups. I have already done the hard (PC Card) part; therefore, I am betting that before too long, we will have the working version we desire from the Internet community; the memory drivers for the 32M RAM should follow shortly thereafter. I expect that LINIX-86 on the HP200 will become a reality about the same time. As I stated in my original e-mail; I have reached the point of diminishing returns with my MINIX project and am ready to move on to other challenges - I do not plan on doing further development right now and that is why I am ready to turn the project over to the Internet community. I'll keep you posted on my progress. I've often wondered why someone hadn't tackled this sooner. I even considered tackling it myself, but my Unix career stopped about the same time that CP\M hit the market. It would be better if PTP could make an announcement of a working version of Minix or Linux on the 8086. With double speed and 32MB it would be "coup de compute" to our readers who are in the UNIX community. What would you need to finish the task? Do you have a copy of the Developer's Guide for the 200LX? For our readers, most of whom are more interested in applications than operating systems, the article will need to answer questions such as "what does Minix let me do that I can't already do with the LX? e.g. will it let …

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.

Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
