How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 6.0 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • MINIDICT.EXM → A:\SOFT aplicación del System Manager 9.1 KB

No need to put MINIDICT.DOC: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 6.0 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy MINIDICT.EXM to A:\SOFT. It is a System Manager application: register it in App Manager with F2 (Add), giving the full path (for example A:\SOFT\MINIDICT.EXM).
  2. The 200LX takes 8 EXM applications at most. Check with F8 (List) in App Manager: an asterisk in the Status column means the quota is full and you will need MoreEXM.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
INSTALLATION
An EXM Program cannot be run directly from the command line,
but has to be installed into system manager and started via
hotkey. I suggest {Alt-Quicken}, 0xaf00 for the hotkey.
See the section on installing progams in the HPLX manual for
details.
HP system manager leaves only 4 slots free for user-installed
EXM programs. Use of MOREEXM is recommended.
To have X-FINDER automatically open dictionary files,
add the following line to FINDER.ENV:
.wb, ,$t MiniDict;$f c:\_dat\minidict.env %p%c;$m {xaf00(MiniDict)}

WHERE TO GET THE DICTIONARIES

You will find dictionary files or installation packages
including a windows program. The huge files with ".WB"
extension are the dictionary files you need. Copy them to
your palmtop, no conversion needed. You may want to rename the
files to have hints at the languages they contain.
Remember that these dictionary files don't cost you anything,
so be suspicious but tolerant about the quality.

RE-SORTING THE DICTIONARY FILE
The binary search for the lookup function relies on a
sorted dictionary file. For some special characters, the sort
order of the available dictionaries differs from the Palmtop's
string comparison functions. As a result, some lookups may not
take you to the desired entry, just near to it. If you don't
mind and fear the effort of sorting, skip the rest of this
section.
By pressing {Shift}{F2} you can re-sort the file.
The bad news:
This may take several hours, even a day or two, so be
connected to a power supply.
The good news:
You have to do this only once. You can abort the sort at
any time by pressing {Ctrl}{Break}. It may take a while for
the break to take effect.
The HP-LX sorting and searching functions are strange, somehow:

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
