Description
LX Mini Dictionary 1.0 (MiniDict) WHAT IS MINIDICT? MiniDict is a small, system-manager-compliant dictionary program for the HP 100/200LX. It won't run in other environments. MiniDict is inspired by Dict/LX, available from http://www.palmtop.net/super Features are: * Word lookup (fast binary search) * Search the entire database (Phrases and translations) * Search and lookup are insensitive to case and accents. * Copy and paste functions using the HP clipboard * Small memory footprint * Last open dictionary is remembered across sessions and automatically opened at startup.

How to install it
What to send to the palmtop saves 3.4 KB
These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.
-
MINIDICT.EXM→ A:\SOFT aplicación del System Manager 6.8 KB
No need to put
MINIDICT.DOC:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 3.4 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy MINIDICT.EXM to A:\SOFT. It is a System Manager application: register it in App Manager with F2 (Add), giving the full path (for example A:\SOFT\MINIDICT.EXM).
- The 200LX takes 8 EXM applications at most. Check with F8 (List) in App Manager: an asterisk in the Status column means the quota is full and you will need MoreEXM.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.
The author's instructions
INSTALLATION
An EXM Program cannot be run directly from the command line,
but has to be installed into system manager and started via
hotkey. I suggest {Alt-Quicken}, 0xaf00 for the hotkey.
See the section on installing progams in the HPLX manual for
details.
HP system manager leaves only 4 slots free for user-installed
EXM programs. Use of MOREEXM is recommended.
WHERE TO GET THE DICTIONARIES
http://www.freedict.com
http://dict.hplx.net
You will find dictionary files or installation packages
including a windows program. The huge files with ".WB"
extension are the dictionary files you need. Copy them to
your palmtop, no conversion needed. You may want to rename the
files to have hints at the languages they contain.
FUTUTRE PLANS AND KNOWN LIMITATIONS
* MiniDict does not support editing the dictionary nor adding
entries to a user dictionary. To keep the program compact and
simple, I do not intend to add this functionality.
* The binary search for the lookup function relies on a
sorted dictionary file. For some special characters, the sort
order of the available dictionaries differs from the Palmtop's
string comparison functions. As a result, some lookups may not
take you to the desired entry, just near to it. I hope there
will be a solution to this in the next release.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I want to thank:
* All of you who mailed me feedback and bug reports.
* Our Japanese fellow programmers who showed me what is
possible on the LX.

Send to my palmtop
The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
Your browser cannot talk to the serial port. Direct sending uses the Web Serial API, which only exists in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop — not in Firefox, Safari or any mobile browser.
Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
