How to install it
What to send to the palmtop saves 6.7 KB
These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.
-
LXSHIFT.COM→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 846 B
No need to put
LXSHIFT.DOC:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 6.7 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy LXSHIFT.COM to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.
The author's instructions
To install it permanently, put LXSHIFT.COM in some
directory "C:\DIR" on your DOS PATH, and add the command
"C:\DIR\LXSHIFT" to your AUTOEXEC.BAT, before SysMgr
($SYSMGR/100/200). If you don't have an AUTOEXEC.BAT on drive
C: already, copy it and CONFIG.SYS from drive D: first. To
uninstall, remove that line from AUTOEXEC.BAT and reboot.
(Note: if for some reason you want to install LXSHIFT
initially in the suspended state, you can do this with the
command "LXSHIFT OFF".)
Once installed, LXSHIFT's operation can be suspended in
the event that it interferes with other software or is no
longer desired; it is not necessary to attempt to remove the
TSR. Just use these commands at any DOS prompt (this does not
require unloading SysMgr):
LXSHIFT - report current status
LXSHIFT OFF - suspend operation
LXSHIFT ON - resume operation
STICKY Ctrl/Alt KEYS
Once LXSHIFT is installed, if this feature is enabled,
the [Ctrl] and [Alt] keys become "sticky". Tapping them alone
engages the state for the next keypress; tapping them again
cancels the state, and produces a click sound to confirm this.
(Note: it is normal to hear this click occasionally when you
turn your LX off as well.)
Unlike the built-in sticky feature for Shift and Fn, no
visible annunciator for Ctrl or Alt states is provided on the
display.
Note that the sticky Alt feature does not apply to
entering IBM graphics using the "numeric keypad" feature: you
must still hold down Alt along with Menu while you press the
digit keys.
Note also that any other software which attempts to
detect the tapping of the Ctrl or Alt key alone will be
intercepting the same keyboard interrupt that LXSHIFT does,

Send to my palmtop
The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
Your browser cannot talk to the serial port. Direct sending uses the Web Serial API, which only exists in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop — not in Firefox, Safari or any mobile browser.
Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
