How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 62.0 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • LXMIDI.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 30.6 KB

No need to put LXMIDI.DOC, LXMIDI.JPN, SOURCE.ZIP: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 62.0 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy LXMIDI.COM to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

2. Quick Start

Please prepare MIDI data in Standard MIDI File Format 0.

From DOS prompt, enter:

     LXMIDI -N1 -X -O8 -C120 SAMPLE.MID (normal machine)

or

     LXMIDI -N1 -X SAMPLE.MID (double speed machine)

(SAMPLE.MID is assumed to be the name of your MIDI file). Now
our 100/200LX is reborn as a palmtop MIDI sound module.

If you are a user of a normal speed machine, you will notice
the high pitch noise. Reducing the value of the '-C' option
may improve the sound. First reduce the value to a point
where you encounter a skipping sound, then increase the value
by 3 to 5.

If you want to play the MIDI date in formats other than SMF
Format 0, please refer to Section 5 below.

Your should have at least 130 KB of the conventional memory
(or 70 KB, if EMS is available) to run LXMIDI. If your sound
data are larger, you need more. If enough memory is not
available, LXMIDI will terminate during reading from the file.
Specifying '-S' option, when more than 4 pages of EMS is
available, will use EMS and thus enables the playback of
larger data.

From Ver 1.70, LXMIDI can create and play music data in
Object File format (extension .LXM), an internal data format
of LXMIDI. Running LXMIDI with '-W' will create the LXM data
file. Although larger in file size in most cases, it can be
loaded faster and enables to start the music immediately.

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
