How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 350.4 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • HP-PYGMY.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 18.0 KB
  • EYE.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B
  • HP-PYGMY.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B

No need to put EXTEND.SCR, EXTEND.TXT, HP-PYGMY.SCR, PYGMY.TXT, README.1ST, TUTORIAL.TXT, YOURFILE.SCR: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 350.4 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy HP-PYGMY.COM to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  2. The .ICN files are icons: they go in the same folder as their application.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
NOTE: If you install HP-Pygmy in AppManager with the icon, it will run OK
in the default DOS space (~96K), since it only uses a single 64K segment.
However, HP-Pygmy includes the ability to shell to DOS and run other
programs from within Forth. If you want to use this, give it a lot more
space. When installing it in AppMgr, put the pipe symbol at the end of the
path line. e.g. a:\forth\hp-pygmy.com| to give it all available space
OR a:\forth\hp-pygmy.com|250 to give it 250K

PRINTING FROM HP-PYGMY:

To print from HP-Pygmy, you'll need to make sure the serial port is
properly set before starting. I include these two lines in my
autoexec.bat file -
        mode com1 96,N,8,1,P
        mode lpt1=com1
There's one other "gotcha" that also applies to any other DOS program
that supports printing. If you use any communications software, it
probably changes the serial port settings. You'll need to restore them
before running your programs. You can launch your programs from a
batch file that uses the mode command for this.

return to 80 x 25 mode when exited. The two words that

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
