How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 3.8 MB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • GEM.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 153 B
  • OUTPUT.CFG → A:\_DAT configuración 122 B
  • ARTLINE.INI → A:\_DAT configuración 659 B
  • FONTLIST.DAT → A:\_DAT configuración 8.4 KB
  • PRINTERS.DAT → A:\_DAT configuración 481 B
  • GEM.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 59.0 KB
  • DESKHI.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 8.6 KB
  • DESKLO.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 9.3 KB
  • GEMVDI.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 18.9 KB
  • MDGEM9.SYS → A:\SOFT driver, necesita línea en CONFIG.SYS 5.0 KB
  • PDPST9.SYS → A:\SOFT driver, necesita línea en CONFIG.SYS 51.0 KB
  • SPREAD.WKS → A:\HOJAS hoja de Lotus 1-2-3 1.4 KB

No need to put OUTPUT.APP, OUTPUT.RSC, OUTPUT.DFT, OUTPUT.NLQ, SPELLING.DIC, WORDPLUS.APP, WORDPLUS.RSC, WORDPLUS.STR and 240 more: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 3.8 MB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. MDGEM9.SYS is a driver: add DEVICE=A:\SOFT\MDGEM9.SYS to C:\CONFIG.SYS and reboot with Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  2. PDPST9.SYS is a driver: add DEVICE=A:\SOFT\PDPST9.SYS to C:\CONFIG.SYS and reboot with Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  3. Copy GEM.BAT, GEM.EXE, GEMVDI.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  4. Copy OUTPUT.CFG, ARTLINE.INI, FONTLIST.DAT, PRINTERS.DAT to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
  5. If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.
  6. The .ICN files are icons: they go in the same folder as their application.
  7. The .WK1 worksheets are not installed: open them from Lotus 1-2-3 with Menu → File → Retrieve.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
installation program gives you the choice of whether or not to
install these documents. If you elected to install them, you will
find them in the \GEMAPPS\GEMPAGES folder on the disk drive on which
      you installed Publisher.

If you intend to print the sample documents before editing them, open
and save each document in Publisher. This creates a file for the
document having the extension .GMP, which GEM Output requires in
order to print it. Follow these steps:

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
