How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 10.9 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • GUI.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 71 B
  • DOSGUI.INI → A:\_DAT configuración 194 B
  • DOSGUI.BAT → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 91 B
  • DOSGUI.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 58.8 KB

No need to put DOSGUI.DOC, DOSGUI.SET: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 10.9 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy GUI.BAT, DOSGUI.BAT, DOSGUI.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  2. Copy DOSGUI.INI to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
  3. If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
Installing DOS GUI

Create a new directory in the C drive root directory called DOSGUI - DO NOT use
any other name!

Simply place the contents of DOSGUI.ZIP in to C:\DOSGUI.

Using a text editor add C:\DOSGUI to your path statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT
file and re-boot the palmtop (CTRL-ALT-DEL).

** If you do not have an AUTOEXEC.BAT file then copy the one found on the
built-in D drive to the C drive and amend that.

If you are using a HP 100/200lx make sure System Manager has been terminated
(&... M ENTER T ENTER) and you are in DOS.

From the DOS prompt type GUI then press ENTER. With a bit of luck DOS GUI will
startup.

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
