Description

The HP Palmtop Paper Once you've created a batch file you can compile it with BATLITE and turn it into a .COM file. There are several such programs like this on the market: this is The Best--hands down. The COM file will work slightly faster than the original batch file. Freeware from Belgium. Hard to find elsewhere.

How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 20.8 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • BATLITE.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 16.6 KB
  • PEEKCMD.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 11.2 KB
  • DIFF.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 42.2 KB

No need to put BATLITE.DOC: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 20.8 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy BATLITE.EXE, PEEKCMD.EXE, DIFF.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The manual mentions these files, which are in the archive:

The author's instructions
installation-type batch files, which cannot run as actual .BAT
files anyway (a batch file cannot survive if you remove the
diskette it was sitting on). If you want to keep your batch
files 100% DOS compatible, don't rely on these improvements:

            1. The IF EXIST command will work for subdirectories as
well as for normal files. For example:

if not exist c:\abcdemo mkdir c:\abcdemo

The classic IF EXIST command works with directories,
but only if you use the following trick:

if not exist c:\abcdemo\nul ... (or prn, aux, etc).

            2. BatLite emulates DOS's action in halting after a second
batch file is called from inside the first. If you do
not want this to happen, run BatLite with the
`/Nobatch' switch. Then, if you start a second batch
file from the compiled batch file, the compiled batch
file does not halt, but continues with the next
statement. BatLite checks for the existence of the
second batch file when it creates the .COM file. Thus,
creating or removing a .BAT file _after_ the .COM file
               has been created changes nothing.

            3. The EXIT command has the effect of halting the batch
file. This is a useful substitute for using a goto
statement to jump to the end of a batch file.

            10. BatLite supports the undocumented '=' in the IF
ERRORLEVEL command. For example, 'if errorlevel==1'
and 'if errorlevel = 2' are valid if statements.
