How to install it
What to send to the palmtop saves 12.3 KB
These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.
-
APCALC.EXM→ A:\SOFT aplicación del System Manager 14.3 KB
No need to put
APCALC.DOC, APNAME.LST:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 12.3 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy APCALC.EXM to A:\SOFT. It is a System Manager application: register it in App Manager with F2 (Add), giving the full path (for example A:\SOFT\APCALC.EXM).
- The 200LX takes 8 EXM applications at most. Check with F8 (List) in App Manager: an asterisk in the Status column means the quota is full and you will need MoreEXM.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.
The author's instructions
GETTING STARTED
Unlike normal DOS programs, this
calculator is not invoked from the
command prompt. Instead, you assign a
key; when this key is hit the
calculator starts. Like the builtin
applications, you can suspend the
operation of the calculator and invoke
another of the resident applications,
and return to the calculator at the
same place you left it. To assign a
key to the calculator, you must add an
entry to the file called
C:\_DAT\apname.lst. If this file
does not exist, it must be created.
(A sample apname.lst file is enclosed
in this archive.). The entry for the
calculator would be something like:
C:APCalc.exm,c300,APCalc
This assigns the ALT-HPCALC key to the
programmer's calculator. Important
Note: you MUST reboot the HP 95 after
making any changes to the apname.lst
file for those changes to take
effect. When the calculator starts,
it displays a simple help screen. This
screen can also be displayed at any
time by pressing the F1 key. The
calculator is then set up as it was
when you last used it. (the = key is
useful to clear the help screen
without disturbing anything on the
CALCLINE).
F1 displays the help screen
F2 shifts RIGHT the first number
entered by the second number,
in powers of two.
F3 shifts LEFT the first number
entered by the second number,
in powers of two.
F4 ANDs the first number with the
second number.
F5 ORs the first number with the
second number.
F6 EXCLUSIVE ORs the first number
with the second number.
F7 Stores the result in memory.
F8 Recalls the memory into the
current display.
F9 Adds the result with the
number
stored in memory and saves it

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
Your browser cannot talk to the serial port. Direct sending uses the Web Serial API, which only exists in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop — not in Firefox, Safari or any mobile browser.
Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
