How to install it

What to send to the palmtop saves 79.9 KB

These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.

  • ZIP.ICN → A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B
  • ZIPSET.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 3.2 KB
  • ZIPDUP.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 1.7 KB
  • ZIP.COM → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 18.3 KB

No need to put ZIP221.NEW, FILE_ID.DIZ, ZIP.DOC: they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 79.9 KB on a 1 MB disk.

Steps
  1. Copy ZIPSET.COM, ZIPDUP.COM, ZIP.COM to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
  2. The .ICN files are icons: they go in the same folder as their application.

Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.

The author's instructions
(3) Install and use Mark Scardina's free ASERCTL utility, available on the
CompuServe HPHAND forum. It not only gives you keyboard control over serial
port power, but also prevents interference from SYSMGR. ZIP can then be run
 in any way you like.

ZIPDUP is not customized for the 100/200LX; serial port power must first
be turned on (via SETUP or SERCTL /W). It's best to operate ZIPDUP from DOS
 alone, without SYSMGR loaded.

                                   HP 95LX

On the 95LX, ZIP can be run in a variety of ways, including from Filer
(highlight ZIP.COM and press F4=Run) or from the DOS system prompt.

File transfers can fail on early versions of the 512k 95LX due to a bug
in its serial port handling. You can avoid this by performing a [Ctrl+Up+On]
reset (answering "No" at the prompt, to preserve your C: drive!) before
running ZIP, or often (for some unknown reason) by just performing a server
Directory request with ZIP before transferring files.

The 95LX serial port and cable don't have the additional signal lines
that ZIPDUP requires to operate. Instead, to transfer ZIP.COM to the 95LX,
you must use the 95LX's internal software: either the built-in COMM utility
together with any PC telecom program supporting XMODEM or KERMIT protocol, or
 the Connectivity Pack.

Ready / Waiting connection hasn't yet been successfully established.
<Argument error> invalid filespec or port, incompatible option, etc.
<Insufficient memory> not enough memory to load and run ZIP.
        <Invalid port> installed/selected port is not available.
<Connect error> can't connect -- wrong version? bad cable? timeout?
<No server> function requires server mode on other computer.

Send to my palmtop

The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
