This is the DOS version 5.5 of Microsoft Word, which has been freely available for download on the Microsoft website for some time. Works very well on the palmtop. There are also other language versions available.

Qué enviar al palmtop ahorras 3.7 MB

Estos son los ficheros que necesitas. Puedes enviarlos desde el contenido del paquete.

  • EGA.SYS → A:\SOFT driver, necesita línea en CONFIG.SYS 4.8 KB
  • MOUS8514.SYS → A:\SOFT driver, necesita línea en CONFIG.SYS 18.4 KB
  • SETUP.EXE → A:\SOFT programa de DOS 135.4 KB
  • SETUP.INI → A:\_DAT configuración 20 B

No hace falta llevar al palmtop 437S.TBL, 850.TBL, 850S.TBL, 863.TBL, ACADEMIC.ST$, APPEALS.ST$, ATT6300.CS$, BIOSSAFE.CS$ y 326 más: son manuales, código fuente o material de apoyo. Léelos aquí y ahórrate 3.7 MB en un disco de 1 MB.

Pasos
  1. EGA.SYS es un driver: añade DEVICE=A:\SOFT\EGA.SYS a C:\CONFIG.SYS y reinicia con Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  2. MOUS8514.SYS es un driver: añade DEVICE=A:\SOFT\MOUS8514.SYS a C:\CONFIG.SYS y reinicia con Ctrl+Alt+Del.
  3. Copia SETUP.EXE a A:\SOFT. Son programas de DOS: se ejecutan desde el icono DOS, o añadiendo A:\SOFT al PATH de C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT para poder llamarlos por su nombre.
  4. Copia SETUP.INI a A:\_DAT, que es donde el 200LX busca la configuración. Ábrelo con Memo y ajústalo antes de usarlo.
  5. Si editas un fichero de configuración en el palmtop, asegúrate de dejar un salto de línea al final: hay programas que se comen la última línea sin avisar.

Deducido del contenido del paquete y de las convenciones del 200LX. Se instala en A: a propósito: C: es un disco RAM y cada byte ahí resta memoria al sistema.

RELEASE INFORMATION FOR WORD 5.5A

Award BIOS and DTK BIOS Machines:

Word 5.5A has keyboard drivers for machines with the Award
BIOS and DTK BIOS.  If you are updating from Word 5.5, you
can modify an existing version of Word and choose to update
your video driver.  This will create the support that you
need.

ADDITIONAL SETUP INFORMATION

As noted in the "Getting Started" booklet, you need at
least 384K of available RAM to run Word 5.5; 512K is
recommended.  If you are running Terminate-And-Stay-
Resident (TSR) utilities or network software on your
system, you should verify that you have 384K of RAM
available after they are loaded.

Setup will not recognize a directory name longer than 8
characters that has been created with the Novell FILER
utility. If you want to install Word in such a directory,
you can use the following procedure:

Enviar a mi palmtop

El palmtop tiene que quedar esperando antes de pulsar el botón, o la transferencia fallará. Es él quien avisa de que está listo, no al revés.

En el palmtop

  1. Conecta el cable serie entre el palmtop y el ordenador.
  2. Abre Data Comm y ve a Menu → Connect → Settings. Ajusta: 9600 baudios, 8 bits de datos, paridad None, 1 bit de parada.
  3. Vuelve al menú y entra en Menu → File → Receive, con el protocolo Zmodem. El palmtop se queda esperando: déjalo así.

En el ordenador

  1. Usa Chrome (o Edge / Opera). Firefox y Safari no pueden abrir el puerto serie, y ningún navegador móvil tampoco.
  2. Averigua cuál es tu puerto: si no lo tienes claro, despliega la ayuda de aquí abajo.
  3. Pulsa el botón y selecciónalo en la ventana que abre Chrome.
¿Cómo sé cuál es mi puerto?

Linux — tu adaptador USB-serie será /dev/ttyUSB0 o /dev/ttyACM0. Los /dev/ttyS0…ttyS31 son puertos heredados de la placa base: el núcleo los lista aunque no exista ninguno, así que casi nunca son el tuyo. Para salir de dudas:

ls -l /dev/serial/by-id/

Sale el fabricante y el modelo, y a qué ttyUSB* apunta. Si no aparece nada, desenchufa y vuelve a enchufar el cable y mira dmesg | tail: verás una línea del estilo «ch341-uart converter now attached to ttyUSB0».

Permisos: en Debian y derivados tu usuario debe estar en el grupo dialout o el puerto no se abrirá. Compruébalo con groups, y si falta:

sudo usermod -aG dialout $USER

Hay que cerrar la sesión y volver a entrar para que surta efecto.

Windows — Administrador de dispositivos → Puertos (COM y LPT). Tu adaptador aparece como COM3, COM4… Si aparece con un triángulo amarillo, te falta el driver del chip (FTDI, Prolific o CH340 según el cable).

macOS — ls /dev/cu.*; tu adaptador será algo como /dev/cu.usbserial-A50285BI. Usa siempre el cu., no el tty..

El 200LX no lleva un conector serie estándar: necesitas el cable de conectividad de HP (el F1015A o un equivalente) y, salvo que tu ordenador tenga puerto serie de verdad, un adaptador USB-serie detrás.
