No need to put
DIET.DOC, CALORIES.DOC:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 20.6 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy DIET.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.
The author's instructions
Program Installation:
Place the executable (DIET.EXE) into the desired directory on any
available drive. If you wish to use the included food type and calorie
file (calories.doc), copy it to the directory as well. All data files
maintained by this program are contained in the directory from where you
launch the program.
Configure your DOS session to have at least 150 Kbytes of free conventional
memory. It is easier to manage your data files if you place the program
into it's own directory.
Program Execution and usage
When you first run the program, any of the above data files that do
not exist in the selected directory will be automatically created.
The distribution includes a starter list of food types and calories
(CALORIES.DOC). Using the program you may delete entries, add new
entries, and edit entries to the food types file. If you copy the
CALORIES.DOC file to the installation directory, then it will NOT
be overwritten.
Main Menu
Each function key operates by pressing the letter key indicated by
the function on the menu. The main menu has the following functions:
(NOTE: for ease in searching this USAGE section, each section has
a tilda "~" character in it's header. Search for ~ to skip sections.
P - Plan a Meal ~
This option lets you look through the food type list and select
which types and how much of each type you want to include in
the meal. When you enter plan a meal, a help screen is shown
before launching into the menu planning stage.
Once in the Meal Planner you will notice a ">" cursor on the
top line. This is the movable cursor. You may use up, down,
pageup, pagedown, end, and home keys to move the cursor. You
can also use typeahead dynamic searching. If you type the

Send to my palmtop
The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
Your browser cannot talk to the serial port. Direct sending uses the Web Serial API, which only exists in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop — not in Firefox, Safari or any mobile browser.
Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
