How to install it
What to send to the palmtop saves 27.6 KB
These are the files you need. You can send them from the package contents below.
-
DBV.CFG→ A:\_DAT configuración 443 B -
DBV.ICN→ A:\SOFT icono, junto a su aplicación 200 B -
DBV.EXE→ A:\SOFT programa de DOS 53.0 KB
No need to put
DBV.DOC, INT5F.ZIP:
they are manuals, source code or supporting material. Read them here and save 27.6 KB on a 1 MB disk.
Steps
- Copy DBV.EXE to A:\SOFT. They are DOS programs: run them from the DOS icon, or add A:\SOFT to the PATH in C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT to call them by name.
- Copy DBV.CFG to A:\_DAT, where the 200LX looks for configuration. Open it with Memo and adjust it before use.
- If you edit a configuration file on the palmtop, make sure you leave a newline at the end: some programs swallow the last line without saying a word.
- The .ICN files are icons: they go in the same folder as their application.
Derived from the package contents and the 200LX conventions. It installs to A: on purpose: C: is a RAM disk and every byte there is memory taken from the system.
The author's instructions
I. Installation
There are 5 files included in this archive:
+ DBV.DOC: The DBView documentation.
+ DBV.EXE: The DBView program.
+ DBV.CFG: The DBView configuration file.
+ DBV.ICN: The DBView icon.
+ INT5F.ZIP: Graphics emulator to enable you to run DBView
on your desktop. Documentation for it is
available in INT5F.ZIP
DBView is a YAPA (Yet Another PAL Application<g>), and like
all PAL applications, it's a DOS program. Simply copy the
files of the archive in a directory of your choice. The
configuration file DBV.CFG must always reside in the same
directory as DBV.EXE.
NOTE: DBV requires at least 130k of memory to operate.
If you install DBV in System Manager, please remember
to add '|130' at the end of the name. For example,
if DBV is installed in A:\DBV, the System manager
entry will look like this:
a:\dbv\dbv.exe|130
The '|130' will reserve 130k of memory for DBV. For
more details on installing applications in System
manager please consult your HP200LX owner's manual.
You can also specify database filenames if you would like
to have several System Manager DBV entries (one for each
database file for example):
a:\dbv\dbv.exe myfile.gdb|130
Configuration:
DBV.CFG is the configuration file of DBView. You can use
it to change some of the default parameters of DBView. At this
moment, DBV.CFG is divided into 3 sections, [options], [paths]
& [files]:
[options]
; Set to 1 to enable error beeps, 0 to disable them.
beep=1
; Set to 1 to enable search in note fields.
SearchNotes=0
; Set to 1 to enable horizontal lines separating records.
HorizLines=0
; Set to 1 to display numbers right-justified in list-view.
RightJustify=0

Send to my palmtop
The palmtop must be waiting before you press the button, or the transfer will fail. It is the palmtop that announces it is ready, not the other way round.
Your browser cannot talk to the serial port. Direct sending uses the Web Serial API, which only exists in Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop — not in Firefox, Safari or any mobile browser.
Download the file with the button above and copy it to the palmtop your usual way.
