Lotus Agenda is one of the most powerful personal information managers (PIM) available for use on desktop computers today. In fact, this was the original software package for which the term "personal information manager" was coined. Even though this is a DOS program originally marketed by Lotus during the late 1980's and early 1990's, it has PIM capabilities and features that are unmatched by any other software available today. Therefore, Agenda still has a large loyal following, even though it is no longer supported by Lotus.
One factor that has breathed new life into Agenda is the HP 200LX palmtop PC. The 200LX is a rugged, full featured AT class computer that can easily fit in a coat pocket and run on two AA batteries for weeks. It's form factor is even smaller than the current WinCE machines. The Agenda/200LX combination provides users with an extremely powerful PIM and research tool that can literally be taken anywhere!
Software developers and consultants should note that Agenda has provisions for the development and distribution of custom applications. This fact, along with the fact that you can distribute Agenda for free, makes this a package well worth considering for certain custom PIM applications. This is especially true for PIM related mobile computing applications that you can implement using an Agenda/200LX combination.
