Description of BVB.ZIP package:

The contained files are the input for Stefan Peichel's LxMap and shows bus and tramway-routes of "Basler Verkers-Betriebe" (the local transport of Ble/Basle) and the surrounding area.

What you need:
  1. A HP100LX, HP200LX, or OmniGo 700LX,
  2. LxMap from http://home.t-online.de/home/stefan.peichl/
  3. this or more maps from http://www.palmtop.net/lxmap.html
  4. transfer the unpacked files to a appropriate directory,
  5. customize two or three entries in the IDX file
	(see comments there).

How to use:
First read Stefan's LxMap.doc from the headline "how to use..", there you get the priciples of operation. An additional feature of my IDX file is its three parts: 1.Haltestellen, 2.Hinweise, and 3.Legende (stops, pointers, and legend). There are numbered headlines in the index, so you may jump directly to the part of your interest by typing its number. Then move with down and up arrow through the entries. Drawback of this method is the break in alphabetical sort order. By typing 'L' (w/o quotes) you get the stop "Lrracherstr." from the 1st part but not the pointer to "Lrrach" from the 2nd part.

Your first journey to Basle?
Before you head to Basle have a look at http://bsonline.ch
If you are allready in town and do not know where to go then visit at SCHIFFLNDE the tourist information. It is in the building next to the boat's landing place. My proposal: Basle's museums offer a broad cultural spectrum.

Note:
Visit the source of the used map at: http://bvb.bsonline.ch There, BVB offers much more service than this LxMap index. And their page is an excelent example of corporate design.

I modified the map in two ways: a normal sized BVB.PCX which is too big for LxMap and causes a poor performance, and a small BVB_SML.PCX which fits the needs of LxMap but the labels of the stops are too small to read. Decide which version you prefere.

A personal remark:
I grew up near Basel and would still prefere to live there. It's public transport system is excelent, Alps, Black Forest, Voges and Jura mountains are only two or less hours away, France is just next door. When I typed in all the names of places and streets I know so well it was a little visit to my past: when I learned ice scating at EGLISEE, when I listened to Irish musik at the folk festival at WENKENHOF, the elephants in the ZOO, the deers at LANGE ERLEN and many more impressions of my childhood.
